Koson studied Japanese-style painting under Suzuki Kason, who excelled in flower-and-bird portraits. Then, under Ernest Fenollosa, he painted flower-and-bird pictures under the name of "Koson" and exhibited his works at the Kyoshin-kai. Later, around 1905, he began to produce flowers-and-birds Ukiyo-e. His painting name was "Kozon" in the Meiji period, "Shoson" at Watanabe Print Shop, and "Hoson" at Kawaguchi.\r\n
Koson has produced over 500 works, but since his release, he has been very popular in Europe and the United States and wasn't a well-known painter in Japan. However, in recent years, exhibitions have eventually been held in Japan, and there is growing momentum for reevaluation.\r\n

This artwork is the collaborative artwork of Kunisada II, who painted the beauty, and Kyosai, who painted the scenery. The contrast between the beauty's thin lines and the strong brushwork in the background is interesting.\r\n

Iki-Ningyo, literally "live Dolls," were elaborately made to look like living people and became a popular form of show entertainment. In 1855, Matsumoto Kisaburo put on a show at Senso-Ji Temple that became very popular, and painters such as Kuniyoshi and Yoshitsuya left ukiyo-e depictions of the show. This work is one of them.\r\n

Kuniyoshi was one of the pupils of Toyokuni and was a late bloomer than Kunisada and other pupils.\r\n
Around the Bunsei-period, he published "108 Heroes of the Popular Suikoden," which created a sensation and made him famous. After that, he was called "Warrior-painter-Kuniyoshi," and became one of the most popular Ukiyo-e artists.\r\n
Since then, he has created various attractive artworks that excelled in high drawing techniques, fascinating composition sense, and fantastic ideas and characters without sticking to the framework of the Ukiyo-e.\r\n

            \r\n

This is the series that depicts famous places of Edo by Yoshitora. This artwork depicts the daily lives of farmers actively engaged in rice planting and is typical of Ukiyo-e works that were open to ordinary people.\r\n
            \r\n
Yoshitora was one of the pupils of Kuniyoshi and was active from the end of the Edo era to the Meiji era. In 1968, he became the second artist in the Ukiyo-e artist ranking, which tells us that he was known in the Ukiyo-e field.\r\n
He was primarily known for his artwork depicting the new culture from overseas and the scenery of Yokohama, which thrived as an international town. In the era, general citizens had never seen Western cultures, architecture from foreign countries, and fashions, so that people could know it from Ukiyo-es.\r\n

Hiroshige II was a pupil of Hiroshige and was initially known as Shigenobu. After Hiroshige's death in 1858, he became the son-in-law of Hiroshige and assumed the name Hiroshige II. He also participated in Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" series, and "Akasaka Kiribatake: Evening in the Rain" was inscribed as a "Hiroshige II painting. "\r\n
Later, he separated from Hiroshige's daughter Otatsu and continued to produce Yokohama paintings and Kaika-e paintings under the name of Rissho.

The hit series of Ukiyo-e "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo", first published from 1856-1859, including several of the Ukiyo-e masterpieces by Hiroshige. Hiroshige began this project at the age of sixty, and in it, captured many charming scenes of the Edo era through very original, vertically-arranged compositions. Though he intended to create 100 images in the beginning, the overwhelming popularity of this series led the artist to produce a total of 118 prints over 3 years.\r\n

In Lahore, northeastern Pakistan, near the border with India, lies the Shahramal Garden, surrounded by 410 fountains, which are very cool and provide extreme comfort, especially during the summer months, which are known for their extreme heat. The water for the garden comes through a canal more than 160 km long, but how this system of canals and fountains works without human intervention is still a mystery, even with today's technology.\r\n

When Yoshida Hiroshi was 23 years old, he went to the US with Nakagawa Hachiro and held an exhibition at Detroit Institute of Arts. In the next year, they succeeded the exhibition together.\r\n
Then his artworks are expressed that "Yoshida draws the air", and all paintings were sold out.\r\n
After that, he traveled all around the world and held successful exhibitions.\r\n
In 1920, Yoshida met Watanabe Shozaburo, and they began creating Yoshida's woodcut prints.\r\n
In addition, Yoshida established his own studio in 1925 and started publishing his woodblock print works.\r\n
Yoshida was famous in the US, thus his studio was used as the art salon of the occupation forces after WWⅡ. In 1945, just after the war ended, Mrs. MacArthur has also visited Yoshida's studio. The workshops and tours of the studio for the officers were often held.

Toyonobu was the grandson of Toyokuni Ⅲ and produced mainly actors and warriors works. In particular, the "Shinsen Taiko-ki" (Newly Selected Biography of Taiko Hideyoshi) series is cited as his best-known work.\r\n
Taiko-ki is a biographical story about the exploits of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the former shogun. In the Edo period, the Tokugawa shogunate forbade depicting Toyotomi Hideyoshi in Ukiyo-e prints because they thought depicting the former shogun would disturb public morals. That series is a typical Meiji-era Ukiyoe series, using vivid Western red pigments and showing the actual person with true names.\r\n
