Iki-Ningyo, literally "live Dolls," were elaborately made to look like living people and became a popular form of show entertainment. In 1855, Matsumoto Kisaburo put on a show at Senso-Ji Temple that became very popular, and painters such as Kuniyoshi and Yoshitsuya left ukiyo-e depictions of the show. This work is one of them.\r\n
            \r\n
Kuniyoshi was one of the pupils of Toyokuni and was a late bloomer than Kunisada and other pupils.\r\n
Around the Bunsei-period, he published "108 Heroes of the Popular Suikoden," which created a sensation and made him famous. After that, he was called "Warrior-painter-Kuniyoshi," and became one of the most popular Ukiyo-e artists.\r\n
Since then, he has created various attractive artworks that excelled in high drawing techniques, fascinating composition sense, and fantastic ideas and characters without sticking to the framework of the Ukiyo-e.\r\n

This is the series that depicts famous places of Edo by Yoshitora. This artwork depicts the daily lives of farmers actively engaged in rice planting and is typical of Ukiyo-e works that were open to ordinary people.\r\n
            \r\n
Yoshitora was one of the pupils of Kuniyoshi and was active from the end of the Edo era to the Meiji era. In 1968, he became the second artist in the Ukiyo-e artist ranking, which tells us that he was known in the Ukiyo-e field.\r\n
He was primarily known for his artwork depicting the new culture from overseas and the scenery of Yokohama, which thrived as an international town. In the era, general citizens had never seen Western cultures, architecture from foreign countries, and fashions, so that people could know it from Ukiyo-es.\r\n

The hit series of Ukiyo-e "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo", first published from 1856-1859, including several of the Ukiyo-e masterpieces by Hiroshige. Hiroshige began this project at the age of sixty, and in it, captured many charming scenes of the Edo era through very original, vertically-arranged compositions. Though he intended to create 100 images in the beginning, the overwhelming popularity of this series led the artist to produce a total of 118 prints over 3 years.\r\n

Eisen was famous for his artworks of beautiful women, but he also created many landscapes. Eisen and Hiroshige completed "69 Stations of the Kiso Kaido" around the 6th year of Tempo, and 24 of the 72 paintings in the series were by Eisen. Eisen was originally the painter for this series, but he relinquished his position midway through the series, and Hiroshige took over.\r\n
            \r\n
Eisen started painting fragile female beauties like his master, Eizan, but later became famous for his unique and fascinating painting style.\r\n
Her paintings are characterized by a six-headed, long-bodied, hunchbacked female figure full of refracted emotions. Eisen portrayed prostitutes in Oka places like Fukagawa and Yoshiwara brothels as women with bewitching and strong-willed looks in their eyes. \r\n

Hiroshige was born in 1776, the son of Ando Genemon, a fireman who worked as a fireman on the Yashirosu river bank in Edo. He loved painting from an early age and became a student of Toyohiro Utagawa at the age of 15. At first, he painted beauties and portraits of actors, but he soon became famous as a popular painter by creating numerous landscapes, starting with his "Famous Places of the Eastern Capital" series.\r\n
