Sadahide was a pupil of Kunisada. In 1867, when he participated in the Paris Expo, he and Yoshimune were representative of the whole Ukiyo-e artist. He also took the first place of the ranking of the best Ukiyo-e artist of 1968.
The specially mentioned his artwork is the attractive bird’s‐eye view, for instance, Yokohama-e. He was also interested in the geography and traveled various places in Japan, and left beautiful artworks.
This artwork is the depiction of the large-scale hunt event held by Minamoto no Yoritomo at the foot of the Mt.Fuji, in 1193.
The various animals are running around to escape from the vassals of Yoritomo. This hunt is called "Makigari", and the hunting area is surrounded on four sides by hunters. We can also see the technique of the bird’s‐eye view.
